Torres del Paine Hotel Grey

Hotel Lago Grey is located at the southern end of Grey lake in Torres del Paine. The superior rooms are modern in design and those from the second floor up have a gret view to the lake and Grey glacier at the far end. The older, standard rooms do not have any particular views, but the rooms are generally spacious.

As this is also the departure point for the Navigation Grey boat at times it can be very busy in the reception and cafe area creating a “commercial” atmosphere. We can include Hotel Grey in your Patagonia itinerary for one or two nights (or longer of course) or for a 4-night, all-inclusive program.

Torres del Paine Hotel Grey

Brief Introduction to Hotel Grey

Moat important to note is that Grey Lake is located in the western sector of Torres del Paine. Moreover, at the far end of the lake is the Glacier Grey that moves slowly down from the Andean peaks of the Southern ice shelf until it breaks into icebergs that then float in Grey lake. In addition, near the glacier, on the eastern shore of the lake, is the Refugio and Camping Grey accommodation center, which is also the end of the western “arm” of the W Trek.

However, Hotel Grey, which is very different from Refugio and Camping Grey is located on its own, on the southern shore of Grey Lake.

Composition of Hotel Grey

Another key point is that Hotel Grey comprises one main unit where the restaurant, bar and lounge is located. Also, there is the hotel reception as well as the reception for the Navigation Grey. Specifically, the Navigation Grey is a catamaran service that takes passengers across to (and collects from) Refugio Grey as well as pass by the face of Glacier Grey. In addition to the main unit are several other units that house the standard guest rooms, and then there is a more modern, two floor construction where the superior guest rooms are located.

Important to note that there is no pool or spa at Hotel Grey.

However, in line with other hotels and lodges in and around Torres del Paine, Hotel Grey now also offer all-inclusive itinerary programs. Although these packages do not yet include the W Trek.

Having said that, Experience Chile can arrange for you an itinerary where you are based for a couple of nights at Hotel Grey, as well as book one of the Hotel Grey all-inclusive programs. Also, a night at Hotel Grey is a good way to begin or end your W Trek if you are going to, or coming from Refugio or Camping Grey, or even Paine Grande.

Access to Glacier Grey

The Navigation Grey catamaran operates between Hotel Grey and Refugio (and camping Grey). The navigation is primarily an excursion to the face of Grey glacier, however, it also acts as a ferry service to take people to, and pick people up, at Refugio Grey.

Most important is that from near to Refugio Grey is the office – ALL RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE AND PRE-PAID – for the Ice Hike on Glacier Grey and Kayak close to Glacier Grey.

For all of these activities Experience Chile will be pleased to incorporate them into the rest of your Torres del Paine Itinerary.

About Hotel Grey

Hotel Grey is the only accommodation option on the southern shore of Grey lake. Furthermore, the complex offers a restaurant, one side of which enjoys a splendid view to Grey lake and its icebergs and, on a very clear day, the glacier at the far end of the lake. In addition, close to the restaurant, is a bar and lounge from where people can relax and also take in the view of the lake and icebergs.

Considering that this is also the check-in for the Navigation Grey glacier excursions, at times it can be quite busy in the common areas.

Around the sector where Hotel Grey is located there are trekking trails that are not on the W circuit, as well options to explore native, wooded areas and walk along Grey beach (which is, effectively, a result of Glacial moraine).

Guest rooms number 60 in total and are either in the country, cabin style units built on stilts in the “garden” area, or in the modern, two floor unit. The standard rooms are the older rooms, whereas the superior rooms are in the modern, two floor unit. More information about rooms is below.

The All-Inclusive Option

Hotel Grey offers guests an all-inclusive itinerary option that includes transport, accommodation, meals and guided excursions. Such all-inclusive options enable the visitor to relax and fully enjoy their experience. The itineraries from Hotel Grey are particularly good if you wish to know other parts of Torres del Paine, especially in the western sector.

The Room Categories

There are two room categories at Hotel Grey. The standard rooms, of which there are 30, are distributed in rustic, cabin style units, and, although they are relatively spacious, these rooms do not offer much of a view. However, there are two units built with one side facing the lake and through the windows of these standard rooms there is a view.

On the other hand, the 30 superior rooms, which actually have less space than the standard rooms, are housed in a two-storey unit, each with a large “picture window” facing the lake. Having said that, the rooms on the second floor enjoy the view, whereas not all the rooms on the first floor get the view because in some parts it is obscured by an earthen mound and trees.

NOTE: Actual room selection with regards to boking a room that has a guaranteed good view is down to luck.
