However, in Patagonia such estancias usually cover vast territories, uphold historic customs and specialize in mainly sheep, and / or cattle farming. What to Expect on an Estancia

Some of the working estancias in Patagonia have retained their authenticity and operate as they always have but allow tourists to visit to get a taste of Patagonia. The style and quality of an estancia will vary from being a simple, rustic place, to something more modern, with regards to the main house and accommodation. Likewise, the area the estancia controls, or covers, will also range in size. Obviously, an estancia is not for everyone. However, if you like the idea of getting a taste of the real Patagonia our suggestion is seek out the more authentic estancia as opposed to the tourist version. For example, the tourist version will be a place that receives many day trippers, and everything is a “show”, whereas the authentic estancia will receive fewer guests and operate as an estancia without the “show”.

Usually, one can horse ride at an estancia. In addition, there are treks and other excursions to interesting, Patagonian places. Another of the benefits of staying at an estancia is that you can avoid the really busy other areas.
