The Torres del Paine Hotel Singular Patagonia at Puerto Natales, is, on the outside, “nothing special”. When pulling up to the reception all there is to see is a rather old looking, wooden, non-descript Patagonian barn. However, upon entry into “this barn” the clues to what is to come begin to unravel.

All we wish to say, at this stage, is, past the initial “upper floor” reception, be prepared for a wonderful surprise.

We are not going to describe it all here, because you need to be able to experience the check-in yourself otherwise the “wow” factor may be spoilt.

About Hotel Singular Patagonia

Torres del Paine Hotel Singular Main Building

The Torres del Paine Hotel Singular main building that houses the hotel used to be the refrigeration plant for sheep that were exported around the World from this small port. It was the British who came to Patagonia over 100 years ago who started sheep farming. They built Estancias, prefabricated in sections back in England, as well as large machine parts that were then shipped to Patagonia and then reassembled here.

The hotel owners have very intelligently maintained the building that houses the refrigeration plant machinery whereupon one can still smell the grease and see massive mechanical wheels and pistons with the badge “Built in Sheffield” on the side.

Singular Patagonia enjoys a beautiful location beside the Señoret Channel. Each guest room has floor to ceiling windows covering one side of the room and through this window is a view directly to the waterfront and mountains the other side. So, for one, you will get a great view when you wake up in the morning.

Plaques on the walls explain when these immense turbines, ovens and generators were made – namely in Great Britian, and the history of sheep being farmed for their fleeces and meat.

The Hotel Singular Patagonia offers a total of 57 bedrooms. 27 of these rooms are 45m2 and set up with matrimonial King beds, and 27 are 35m2 set up as twin rooms with two king beds. Three rooms are designated as suites and these have 70m2.

All rooms have luxury, spacious, en-suite bathrooms attached, and the bathrooms have an actual bath as well as separate shower.

Spacious Rooms

The rooms are incredibly spacious, with “old-fashioned” antique style lamps, desk and chair, plus extra lounge chair. However, the cement ceiling, tasteful choice of fabrics for the curtains and bed coverings, and burgundy red back wall create a modernity too. Each room also has a floor to ceiling, horizontal window wall to offer superb, uninterrupted views to the nearby channel and mountains the other side.

The Restaurant in the “Barn”

In another part of the “barn” is the restaurant and bar. Again, we do not wish to spoil the effect, but we can say that the food is exceptional, and the style and ambience is more like something you would expect to find in New York rather than Patagonia.
