W Trek Refugio Central

Along with Premium Camping Central

The Torres del Paine W Trek Refugio Central and Premium Camping Central are located together close to the Eastern Torres del Paine Welcome Centre and right beside the trail head that leads up to Chileno and the Torres Base.

Consequently, due to its location, this is a very busy place and a usual first or second night for all people trekking the W East to West. You can plan a night at Central if you are arriving in the afternoon to Torres del Paine and the next morning trek up to the Torres Base and back to Central for a second night. Alternatively, you can get to Torres del Paine early, trek to the Torres Base and back down for only one night at Central.

Refugio Central

The Torres del Paine Refugio Torre Central is located almost beside the Torres del Paine Welcome Centre, which is about 3kms from the Laguna entrance into the park. A shuttle service operates between the Laguna Amarga car park to the Welcome Centre. It is a busy, large refugio and at the trail head that runs up to Refugio Chileno (2.5hrs hike) and on to the Torres base (4.5hrs hike from Central or 2hrs hike from Chileno). If Chileno is full this is an alternative, or as a place to rest after, or before the trek.

Considering that Refugio Central is situated on level ground and connected by road to the “outside world”, it means that it has a better construction that other refugios along the W Trek trail, is larger and has overall better facilities. The refugio offers a large dining “canteen style” restaurant as well as a bar, a shower and WC facility along with dorm rooms with a 6-person capacity in each, in bunk beds.

Central Premium Camping

In addition to the refugio at Central there is normal style camping and also Premium Camping. The camping that Experience Chile offers is Premium Camping as part of our all-inclusive W Trek itineraries. Premium Camping means that tents are of a superior quality to the usual. In addition, they are being pitched upon platforms that are high up off the ground. One of the benefits of this level of camping is that it allows for more comfort and warmth for the occupants than a tent pitched at ground level.
