Summary of the Express Polar Circle Expedition Air-Cruise from Punta Arenas (return)
Antarctica Express Trip Summary
This is by far the quickest way to get to Antarctica, have some quality time exploring, and then returning iqually fast to Punta Arenas.
Our partners, Antarctica21 flight and cruise model allows you to arrive to Antarctica in comfort and style. For example, the Antarctica21 air-cruise takes you over the Drake Passage avoiding the discomfort of a rough sea crossing, and lands you on the continent in just two hours. Therefore, you reach Antarctica on a quick flight, rather than a two-day crossing, and then are quickly immersed in the beauty of the Seventh Continent.
Our Pioneering Air-Cruise
Before Antarctica21, travelers who wanted to reach the Antarctic Peninsula had only one option: sail across the rough seas of the Drake Passage. However, since 2003, The Antarctica21, boutique-style wilderness adventures have offered a far more comfortable, and fast alternative.
Skip the Drake
One of the hardest parts about visiting Antarctica are the rough seas that separate the 7th continent from South America. Therefore, the combination of Antarctica flights and cruises allow passengers to by-pass that step by taking a flight over the Drake Passage. Moreover, the two-hour flight takes you from Punta Arenas, the international gateway to Chilean Patagonia, directly to Antarctica, where you then board your expedition ship. Consequently, there is no stormy sea crossing. As a result, there is no seasickness. In conclusion, just quick, total immersion in your Antarctic adventure.
Antarctica is one of the most unexplored places on our planet. There is plenty of wildlife, tremendous landscapes, and more than this trip will allow you to see. The small expedition vessels are more like private yachts, offering direct access to areas along the Antarctic shore that larger ships simply can’t reach. Moreover, because there are fewer passengers, you get on and off the ship faster. Therefore, your time ashore is focused where it should be: savoring every moment of a travel experience unlike any other.
Antarctica21 offers several different Antarctica flights and cruises, so you can pick an adventure that appeals to your interests. For example, the most popular option is the classic Antarctica air cruise from Ushuaia. However, other options include the Polar Circle, South Georgia and Antarctica, and the Antarctica Express air-cruise.
In all cases ExperienceChile.Org is a prime partner and here to help you choose and book the adventure best suited to your desires and budget. Also, ExperienceChile.Org will add on some interesting extras, free of charge should you book with us. For example, we will add on a free night in any city on Chile or Argentina at one of our partner hotels, or we may include the return flight Santiago to Punta Arenas free of charge. Once we know what cabin type you wish to book we will be able to tell you what our offer is.
And, please do not forget that ExperienceChile.Org can also create a pre Antarctic or post Antarctic Patagonia travel itinerary, or maybe elsewhere in South America, just let us know.
Polar Circle Antarctic Express Cruise Itinerary
Itinerary at a Glance
The Polar Circle air-cruise is one of the most adventurous expeditions offered by Antarctica21. Above all, the main objective on this air-cruise expedition is to try and reach the Antarctic Polar Circle located at approximately 66° south of the equator. However, the Expedition team handcrafts every voyage depending on the Antarctic weather and each day of the Polar Circle air-cruise is filled with ample opportunities to explore.
Day 1: Punta Arenas Arrival
Antarctica21 staff members welcome you to Punta Arenas, Chile, before 2 PM. Transfer to your hotel and attend a mandatory briefing that provides important information about your air-cruise and reviews the essential guidelines for Antarctic visitors. Moreover, this is follwed by a welcome dinner introduces you to the local gastronomy as you meet fellow adventurers from around the world.
Day 2: Flight to Antarctica
The flight from Punta Arenas will take 2hrs to get to King George Island, in the South Shetland Islands. Here is where your Antarctic adventure begins in earnest. For example, from the moment you exit the airplane into the clear Antarctic air that fills your lungs for the first time, you will instantly feel that you are somewhere different. Moreover, you then walk 2-km (1.25-mi) passing Chile’s Frei Station and Russia’s Bellingshausen Station to reach the shore and board a Zodiac that will take you to your boutique expedition vessel.
Days 3 – 8: Exploring Antarctica
Today you will sail along ice-filled fjords and among spectacular icebergs, while enjoying the company of seabirds, penguins, seals and whales. As well as visit the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, disembarking by Zodiac each day. However, these daily excursions will be done in small groups. Above all, you will hike to extraordinary sites and take part in exploratory Zodiac excursions to otherwise inaccessible areas.
During your daily excursions there will be expert polar guides sharing their passion for Antarctica through an engaging program of illustrated presentations. Moreover, they will lead you ashore to interpret the wildlife, the history and the many wonders of the Antarctic environment.
Back on board the ship, from the glass-enclosed lounge, you will be able to enjoy spectacular views while sharing your daily adventures with fellow guests over a drink. Most importantly for us, the goal of the expedition is to sail far south in the attempt of reaching the Polar Circle.
Most importantly, the Expedition Team plans the specific voyage route based on local conditions and takes advantage of the ever-changing opportunities provided by nature. However, flexibility will be the key to a successful voyage. Therefore, your voyage may include visits to sites in the South Shetland Islands, the Antarctic Sound, the Garlache and Penola Straits, and the Crystal Sound. Each Polar Circle Air-Cruise is unique and crafted to provide the best possible overview of the varied Antarctic environment.
Day 9: Return Flight to Punta Arenas
Back at King George Island, you will need to bid farewell to Antarctica as you board the flight to Punta Arenas. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for the night.
(Note: Meals in Punta Arenas are at your leisure and not included in the program).
Day 10: End of Air-Cruise
After breakfast, transfer to the Punta Arenas airport for your onward flight. Unless ExperienceChile.Org has arranged an add-on itinerary for you. Please let us know so we can keep the magic going for you.
